In response to the rising wave of deadly attacks in parts of Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police units and assets to the affected communities to curb further violence and restore peace.
This was disclosed in a press release issued on Wednesday, by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, the IGP also directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to personally lead and coordinate the operations.
The deployment, which includes advanced surveillance drones, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), helicopters, Police Mobile Force units, and the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), is aimed at quelling the violence that erupted in Bokkos Local Government Area and its environs since March 28.
These attacks have left scores of residents dead and many others injured, plunging several communities into fear and mourning.
DIG Yakubu arrived in Plateau State on Tuesday, where he paid a courtesy visit to the state governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang.
During the visit, he conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Plateau, and discussed joint strategies to end the cycle of violence.
The IGP emphasized a multi-pronged approach to the crisis, one that not only responds to the current attacks but also aims to prevent future occurrences through strategic operations and intelligence-led policing.
The Nigeria Police Force reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace, urging citizens to support the security agencies by providing credible information that could aid investigations and operations.
The statement concluded with a call for collaboration among community leaders, stakeholders, and sister security agencies to achieve long-term stability in the region.
