MALAWI: Mulanje Electricity Generation Agency Plans Major Expansion

The Mulanje Electricity Generation Agency (Mega) Limited, has announced plans to significantly expand its electricity generation capacity from 220 kilowatts to 6.5 megawatts.
This development was revealed by Samuel Mambo, Mega Limited’s operations manager, during a donation ceremony in Mulanje.
Mega Limited, in partnership with Mzuzu University, donated 94 pressure cookers to 94 households in the TA Sunganinzeru area.
The donation aims to promote the use of clean energy and reduce environmental degradation, particularly deforestation.
Osmond Chapotoka, director of agriculture services at Mulanje district council, and the beneficiaries praised the partners for their initiative, stating that it will greatly contribute to environmental protection.
According to Vincent Mwale, a lecturer at Mzuzu University, the donation is part of the institution’s social responsibility efforts.
Mwale emphasized the importance of promoting energy sources that are environmentally friendly in Malawi. The donation was made possible through financial support from Loughborough University of England.
