Authorities in Kenya have taken into custody the driver of a government vehicle involved in President William Ruto’s motorcade, after it fatally struck a British citizen along Ngong Road on Thursday Evening.
According to police sources, the driver’s identity has not been disclosed, but he was released on cash bail as investigations continue.
The vehicle was impounded at Kilimani Police Station for forensic examination.
The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Edgar Charles Frederick from the United Kingdom.
His remains have been taken to Lee Funeral Home for a postmortem.
Eyewitnesses say the elderly man was attempting to cross the road near Adams Arcade when the speeding convoy hit him.
Some reports suggest he had a hearing impairment and may not have heard warnings from traffic officers clearing the road.
Following the incident, the National Police Service launched a probe and urged all road users to observe traffic regulations to prevent further accidents.
