MALAWI: President Chakwera Removes Sosten Gwengwe As Trade Minister Amidst Protests Over Rising Prices

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, has removed Sosten Gwengwe as the Minister of Trade and Industry.
Gwengwe’s removal comes at a time when the country is facing widespread protests over the rising prices of goods.
Recently, vendors in Lilongwe took to the streets to demonstrate against the increasing prices of second-hand clothes bales.
The protesters called on the government to intervene and address the issue.
In response to the growing concerns, President Chakwera has appointed Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, who was previously the Minister of Labour, to take over as the new Minister of Trade and Industry. Mumba will now be responsible for addressing the challenges facing the trade and industry sector, including the rising prices of goods.
The removal of Gwengwe and the appointment of Mumba are seen as a move by the President to address the concerns of the protesters and restore stability in the trade and industry sector.
