SOUTH SUDAN: Patriarch Theodore II Of Alexandria Pays Historic Visit To South Sudan

Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday, warmly welcomed Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa to the Presidential Office in Juba.
This marked a historic milestone as the first-ever official visit by a Patriarch of Alexandria to South Sudan.
The groundbreaking visit aims to fortify the relationship between the Orthodox Church and the people of South Sudan, with an emphasis on fostering goodwill, development, and collaboration among faith communities.
During their meeting, Patriarch Theodore II expressed deep appreciation for President Kiir’s leadership during South Sudan’s liberation struggle and underscored the vital role of faith in promoting peace, stability, and national unity.
“May God bless the people of South Sudan with lasting peace and prosperity, and may His love guide our hearts,” the Patriarch said in a statement following the talks.
The First Lady, Mary Ayen Mayardit, also attended the reception, adding further weight to the significance of the event.
Patriarch Theodore II acknowledged South Sudan’s growing Orthodox Christian community and vowed the Church’s continued support for the country’s ongoing efforts in nation-building.
This visit symbolizes a new chapter in the partnership between the Orthodox Church and South Sudan, reinforcing the importance of interfaith dialogue as a tool to address national challenges and inspire unity across the country.
