KENYA: Man Given 150-Year Sentence For Murdering His Three Children
By Lisbeth Micheni, Kenya
A court in Bomet has sentenced a 40-year-old man to 150 years behind bars, for the brutal killing of his three children in 2019.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar of the Bomet High Court handed Bernard Kipkemoi Kirui a consecutive 50-year sentence for each child he murdered.
Kirui was found guilty of taking the lives of his sons: 12-year-old Amos Kipngetich, 8-year-old Vincent Kiprotich, and 5-year-old Emanuel Kipronoh while their mother was away.
In his verdict, Justice Ng’arng’ar described the crime as extremely cruel and inhumane, emphasizing that the stiff penalty should serve as a deterrent to others contemplating similar actions.
Sharon Cherono, the children’s mother, welcomed the court’s decision, expressing gratitude that justice had been served.
Kirui has the option to appeal the ruling within 14 days.
