A gas explosion at Tasiu Gas Plant in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, has caused huge destruction, following a failed gas transloading operation.
The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, caused a massive fire that engulfed the gas station, destroying several parked vehicles.
The fire was also reported to have spread to Ngeil Grains Processing Factory, located behind the gas plant, where it burned 550 bags of beans and six bags of soybeans, resulting in losses worth millions of naira.
The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the gas explosion and attributed the explosion to the transfer of gas from a tanker to a surface tank.
He said; “Ngeil grains processing factory behind the gas plant was also gutted by the inferno.
About 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans were burnt in the factory.
As of the time of filing this report, no life was lost, and the fire has been put under control.
This explosion comes just a few weeks after the tragic Dikko fire disaster, which claimed over 100 lives and left several others injured.
Authorities have urged gas plant operators to adhere strictly to safety protocols to prevent further incidents.
