NIGERIA: New Alaafin Of Oyo, Owoade, Calls For Unity Ahead Of Coronation

The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has urged the people of Oyo to embrace unity and support his reign as he prepares for his official coronation.
In a video shared by Facebook user Prince Akanni Segun Olalekan on Friday, Oba Owoade, speaking in Yoruba, expressed his commitment to the progress of the Oyo Kingdom.
He said: “I extend my greetings to the people of Oyo and its surroundings. I am the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo.
“I want unity in Oyo, and I know with your support, by God’s grace, all the good plans I have for the people of Oyo will be fulfilled,” the monarch said.
The Oyo State Government has scheduled the coronation ceremony for April 5, 2025. To ensure a smooth and well organized event, the government inaugurated a 25-member coronation committee on February 3, 2025 to oversee the preparations. .
The committee includes representatives from the Alaafin’s palace, state government officials, and other key stakeholders. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Ademola Ojo, presided over the committee’s inauguration.
Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier presented the staff of office to Oba Owoade on January 13, 2025, officially marking the beginning of his reign as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
