The Catholic bishops in Malawi have changed the name of their conference from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) to the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB).
According to the Archbishop of Blantyre, Bishop Thomas Msusa’s successor, Bishop Valeriano Mtseka, the name change is aimed at aligning the conference with the international standard of naming conferences of Catholic bishops.
Bishop Mtseka explained that the change is also intended to clearly identify the conference as a gathering of Catholic bishops.
The bishops are currently meeting for their annual conference, which started a few days ago and is expected to conclude today.
The name change is seen as a move to strengthen the identity and mission of the Catholic Church in Malawi, and to promote greater unity and cooperation among the bishops.
The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops is the official gathering of Catholic bishops in Malawi, and it plays a crucial role in promoting the interests of the Catholic Church inthe country.
