The Lagos State University (LASU) Senate, has announced Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) following an election held on Monday.
This was disclosed in a press statement released on the university’s official Instagram handle.
According to the statement, Prof. Afisi emerged a winner, defeating LASU’s Director of Museum and Chairman of LASU IIVC, Prof. Maruf Suraqat Animashaun, by 198 votes to 2.
Prof. Afisi, a distinguished professor of philosophy, will succeed Prof. Olufunsho Abayomi Omobitan, whose tenure concludes on Wednesday, 29th January 2025.
He is expected to officially assume office on Thursday, 30th January 2025.
Born on 15th July 1974, Prof. Afisi hails from the Afisi-Shokun-Agbajegoriite-Onilegbale Royal House of Isale-Eko, Lagos Island, Lagos State. He spent his early years in Mushin, Lagos, and began his education at Ajenifuja Primary School, Ilupeju, in 1980.
He later attended Ilupeju College, where he earned his West African School Certificate in 1992.
Prof. Afisi obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos in 1998 and completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Lagos State Model College, Obadore, from 1998 to 1999.
He went on to earn a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Lagos in 2002.
In 2014, he achieved a significant academic milestone by obtaining a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
