Airtel Malawi Plc has announced the appointment of Aashish Dutt as its new Managing Director, effective February 1, 2025.
Dutt will succeed Abdul Khayyum Shaik, who has been serving as Acting Managing Director since November 1, 2024.
According to a statement signed by Kayisi Sadala on behalf of the board, Dutt brings over 28 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including 14 years in executive management.
The statement highlights his strong commercial background in telecommunications and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), with experience spanning India and Africa.
Prior to his appointment, Dutt served as Chief Commercial Officer for Airtel Kenya Networks since August 2021.
As Airtel Malawi navigates the increasingly competitive telecommunications landscape, the company has faced several challenges, including intense market competition, regulatory pressures, and the need to invest heavily in network infrastructure.
Additionally, the company has had to contend with issues related to network quality, customer service, and pricing.
Despite these challenges, Airtel Malawi remains committed to providing innovative and affordable telecommunications services to its customers.
The appointment of Aashish Dutt as Managing Director is expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the company, helping to drive growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience.
