The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its congratulations to Donald Trump on his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America.
The message of goodwill was delivered in a statement issued on Tuesday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the statement, the Nigerian government highlighted the enduring ties between the two nations, emphasizing their shared commitment to good governance, sustainable development, and the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria congratulates President Donald Trump following his successful inauguration as the 47th President of the United States of America. Nigeria and the United States have enjoyed cooperation in diverse areas of mutual interest, especially in the promotion of good governance, sustainable development, and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Nigeria looks forward to further strengthening our historic, strong, and vibrant strategic partnership for the benefit of all our people,” the statement read.
President Trump was sworn in on Monday during a landmark ceremony held inside the Capitol Rotunda, a shift from the traditional outdoor event due to inclement weather.
The oath of office was administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, with Trump pledging to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.”
The Federal Government also reiterated Nigeria’s eagerness to collaborate with the Trump administration in addressing global challenges, fostering mutual growth, and advancing the well-being of citizens in both countries.
