NIGERIA: Oyo Gov, Makinde Approves Appointment Of New Alaafin Of Oyo

The governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the Alaafin of Oyo.
This announcement was made known on Friday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade.
Oyelade explained that the new Alaafin, Owoade, was selected through a rigorous process of consultations and traditional divinations conducted by the Oyomesi (Oyo Kingmakers).
The statement read: “Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, after thorough consultations and divinations, has been recommended by the Oyomesi and approved by Governor Seyi Makinde as the new Alaafin of Oyo.”
In his remark, The commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ademola Ojo, said the announcement ends the legal and social disputes that followed the passing of the former Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi II, who died on April 22, 2022.
Ojo said: “This decision has put to rest all the socio-legal controversies that have arisen since the transition of the late Oba Adeyemi.
“We urge the people of Oyo State to support the new Alaafin and join the government in celebrating this historic moment.”
The Commissioner of Information also expressed optimism that the reign of the new King would usher in unity, peace and prosperity for the Oyo Kingdom.
He added: “We pray that his reign brings progress and harmony to the people of Oyo and strengthens the historic legacy of the Alaafin institution.”
Residents of Oyo State have been urged to rally behind the newly chosen monarch as he embarks on his reign over the ancient Kingdom.
