NIGERIA: 2027: Kwankwaso Vows To Diminish APC’s Hold On Kano Politics

By Onoja Baba, Kano, Nigeria
Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared his intention to drastically weaken the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State against the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso made this bold commitment on Wednesday while hosting a strategic meeting with former councillors and senior special advisers who served under his administration.
The gathering, held at his residence in Kano, also brought together key stakeholders from Tsanyawa Local Government Area.
Addressing his loyalists, Kwankwaso credited the success of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, where it relegated the once-formidable Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to securing only 15,000 votes in Kano State.
He described this achievement as evidence of the NNPP’s growing strength, especially considering the party’s late start in the campaign and its relative novelty on the political scene.
He said: “Despite the odds, we proved that with hard work and commitment, we could reshape the political landscape in Kano.
“Now, it’s our turn to diminish APC’s influence. We will work tirelessly to ensure their votes are reduced to less than 15,000 in Kano come 2027.”
The former governor stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation and unwavering dedication to establish the NNPP as a dominant force in Kano and other parts of the country.
He urged his supporters to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to delivering tangible results that would further boost the party’s chances in future elections.
Kwankwaso’s remarks came amid growing speculation about his political aspirations ahead of 2027, with many analysts viewing Kano as a battleground state critical to the fortunes of any party aiming for national prominence.
