NIGERIA: Just In: House Of Reps Confirms Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede As Chief Of Army Staff
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The House of Representatives has confirmed Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff, cementing his leadership of the Nigerian Army.
The confirmation took place on Thursday during plenary, following a thorough screening by the Joint Committees on Defence and Army the previous day.
Presenting the committee’s report, Chairman Babajimi Benson described Oluyede as a seasoned military officer with the expertise and vision to lead the army effectively. He urged the House to approve the nomination.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu presided over the session, where the motion to confirm Oluyede was unanimously adopted.
Oluyede’s confirmation comes at a critical time for Nigeria as the nation continues to grapple with security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, and other forms of armed violence.
