MALAWI: Chewa Heritage Foundation Demands Apology From Alliance Democracy

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Malawian politicians have been challenged to refrain from making derogatory remarks against ethnic groups in the country.
The call has come in the wake of demands by the Chewa Heritage Foundation, demanding an apology from Alliance for Democracy (Aford) President Enock Chihana.
According to Chihana in a media briefing in Lilongwe yesterday, Malawi Electrical Communion (MEC) should use the Smartmatic system meant for the upcoming 2025 election at a Chewe Initiation Camp – Dambwe.
However, this has not gone down well with Chewa Heritage which is now demanding an apology from Chihana.
Meanwhile, Anthony Mtuta a cultural and ethnic scholar has faulted Chihana for the remarks and appealed to politicians to avoid mixing politics with cultural values.
