Malawi Man Arrested For Impersonating Military Officer, Stealing K10 Million

By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
A Malawian citizen has been arrested in Mzimba for posing as a Malawi Defence Force officer and scamming locals of a large sum of money.
The man whose name was not disclosed, promised families that he could secure jobs for their children in the army, but only if they paid him a hefty fee.
According to the Mzimba police spokesperson, the man’s arrest followed reports from suspicious locals. Several victims paid him large sums of money, trusting he would help them join the military.
He said the impersonator went to great lengths to deceive the villagers, organising fake training sessions.
However, his scheme unravelled when police discovered forged documents, a toy rifle, camouflage clothing, and other fake training supplies during his arrest.
The police noted that he’s faced with charges of impersonating a public officer and obtaining money through false pretences.
