High Court Judge, Mzondi Mvula, has sentenced Annie Mumba to 53 years in prison for murdering her husband, Professor Peter Mumba.
In his ruling, Justice Mvula stated that Annie’s actions were premeditated. On the fateful day, Annie allegedly called an ambulance from 20km away in Bunda, claiming her husband was ill. However, when the ambulance arrived, Professor Mumba was already dead.
Justice Mvula cited evidence proving that Annie’s story was fabricated and that Professor Mumba’s death was unnatural. The autopsy report revealed that the professor died from poisoning.
Annie and Professor Mumba were married for six years before the incident. The prosecution established that Annie had been serving her husband poisoned food at their home.
Professor Peter Mumba was a Chemistry lecturer at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
Annie, 56, will serve 53 years for the heinous crime.
