NIGERIA: Police Arraign Rep. Alex Ikwechegh For Assault On Bolt Driver In Abuja

The Nigerian Police Force has arraigned Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member, at an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje, following a viral video allegedly showing him assaulting a Bolt driver at his residence in the capital.
Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South federal constituency in Abia State, appeared in court on October 30, facing charges of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life.
Prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit, the lawmaker pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Presiding Judge, His Worship Abubakar Umar Sai’id, granted Ikwechegh bail set at N500,000, and adjourned the case until November 8 for further hearing.
Confirming the arraignment, Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, took to X, stating, “RULE OF LAW: POLICE PROSECUTES HON ALEXANDER IKWEGH FOR ASSAULT… Details soon.”
