The Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) will distribute over K917 million in royalties to more than 100 artists, authors, and publishers. The royalties cover works reproduced between October 2023 and March 2024.
In a statement issued, COSOMA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and protecting creativity in Malawi.
A ceremony honoring the recognized artists, authors, and publishers will take place on October 24, 2024, at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe.
Shadreck Kumtengo, Head of Distribution at COSOMA, emphasized the initiative’s significance. “This distribution rewards local talent and highlights the importance of protecting creative works in Malawi,” Kumtengo said.
The royalties, collected through the Blank Media Levy, demonstrate COSOMA’s ongoing efforts to promote and safeguard intellectual property rights in the country.
