Deputy President nominee Kithure Kindiki has received President William Ruto at the Kwale County Commissioner’s office ahead of the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Images seen by Citizen Digital show Kindiki receiving President Ruto as he got off a Kenya Air Force chopper with First Lady Rachel Ruto on Sunday morning.
Kindiki was also flanked by Trade Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Olollo and Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani.
President Ruto will be expected to make his way to the Kwale County stadium where he will preside over the celebrations.
Kindiki was nominated to be the Deputy President of Kenya after the Senate impeached Rigathi Gachagua.
Impeached DP Gachagua has been admitted to the Karen Hospital in Nairobi since Thursday, October 17, and is still recuperating.
Doctors had initially informed the press that the DP would be admitted for 48 to 72 hours as they monitored his progress.
A court order, however, suspended the Senate impeachment, throwing a spanner in the works for Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to assume the DP’s office.
Gachagua has also taken to X joining Kenyans in commemorating the celebrations.
“Happy Mashujaa Day dear Kenyans. God Bless our Nation,” he wrote on Sunday.
