At least four projectiles were launched from the Gaza Strip on Monday morning, just minutes after Israel began formal commemorations of the anniversary of last year’s October 7 attacks.
The Israeli military confirmed the rockets were fired as sirens blared in multiple communities near Gaza at 6:31 AM.
According to a military statement, three of the projectiles were intercepted by the Israeli Air Force (IAF), while the fourth landed in an open area without causing significant damage.
The armed wing of Hamas claimed responsibility, stating that it had targeted “enemy gatherings” at Rafah crossing, Kerem Shalom crossing, and kibbutz Holit, which are all close to the Gaza border.
In response, the Israeli military said it neutralized an “immediate threat” posed by Hamas rocket launchers. The IAF struck Hamas’ launch posts and underground infrastructure across Gaza. Overnight, Israeli forces also hit targets in the central Gaza Strip that were deemed a threat to Israeli troops operating in the area.
In a broader escalation, sirens were reported in northern Israel’s Upper Galilee region due to continued rocket fire from Lebanon.
The Israeli military has been engaged in ongoing clashes with Hezbollah militants along the Lebanese border.
Additionally, earlier on Monday, the Israeli military reported intercepting two “suspicious aerial targets” launched from the east, further heightening tensions in the region.
