MALAWI: MBS Suspends Four Blantyre Food Processing Companies Over Safety Violations

The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has suspended the operations of four food processing companies in Blantyre after inspections revealed serious violations of food safety and hygiene standards.

The affected companies are Dilydada Limited, Aimi Industries Limited, 88 Brothers and Tianma Company Limited. According to MBS, the firms will remain closed until they fully address the identified shortcomings and comply with the country’s food safety requirements.

In a statement shared on its official Facebook page, MBS said the companies have also been ordered to pay quarantine fees for products that had already been manufactured before the inspections. In addition, each company has been fined K2 million for failing to comply with Malawi Standards.

The bureau said the enforcement action followed a factory surveillance exercise conducted in Blantyre’s Mapanga Industrial Area between 27 and 31 July 2026. The inspections formed part of MBS’s ongoing efforts to ensure that food products on the market are safe for consumers.

MBS emphasized that adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations is mandatory for all manufacturers, warning that companies found violating the standards risk enforcement measures, including suspension of operations and financial penalties.

The bureau has since urged all food processing companies across the country to strengthen their quality control systems and comply with national standards in order to protect public health and maintain consumer confidence in locally manufactured products.
