Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has issued a stern warning to politicians accused of spreading hate speech and sponsoring political violence, saying offenders will face prosecution as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at the 38th National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) Conference in Mombasa, Ingonga said his office is working closely with the DCI and NCIC to crack down on inflammatory political rhetoric and goonism.
“Inflammatory statements being made by politicians across the divide will be dealt with. Together with the DCI and NCIC, we will ensure those responsible are brought to book,” said Ingonga.
The DPP also warned that those involved in organising or financing political gangs would not be spared.
“Anyone found culpable with goonism will be dealt with. We only have one country, Kenya, and we will not allow anyone to drive it into anarchy,” he added.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions and renewed calls for action against hate speech and violence ahead of the 2027 polls.
