NIGERIA: IGP Disu Decorates 30 Newly Promoted Senior Police Officers

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu on Tuesday decorated 30 senior officers recently promoted to the ranks of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and Commissioner of Police (CP), charging them to uphold integrity, strengthen public trust and provide exemplary leadership in the discharge of their duties.

The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, formally recognised 13 newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 17 Commissioners of Police whose elevations followed years of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing the officers, IGP Disu described their promotions as both a reward for dedication and a call to greater responsibility. He acknowledged the sacrifices they had made throughout their careers, noting that many had missed birthdays, family celebrations and other important personal milestones in the line of duty. He also commended their families for their unwavering support and sacrifices.

“Your promotion is a call to higher responsibility within the Force. Lead with uncompromising integrity and humanity. Officers who genuinely fight for the welfare of the men and women they command will, in turn, earn their loyalty and support,” the IGP said.

He further urged the newly promoted officers to inspire confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through their conduct, mentor younger officers and wear their new ranks with humility.

“Build public confidence in the Force through your conduct and decisions, mentor the younger officers who look up to you, and lead in a manner worthy of the hopes of that rising generation. Wear your ranks with humility as much as with pride,” he added, while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel.

The newly decorated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are Obono Nnaghe Itam, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Edobor, Isah Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ifebem Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Bello Rashid Afegbua, Hycenth Azuka Edozie, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

The 17 newly promoted Commissioners of Police include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Aremu Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Rita Oyintare Oki, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nurudeen A. Sabo, Tijani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Etaifo, Taiwo A. Adedeji, Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura and Zainab Audu Pembi.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Oyekachukwu Ibezim; Deputy National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Zainab Ibrahim; Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, representing the state governor; Engr. Ken Ekwemigo, representing the Governor of Anambra State; His Royal Highness Clement Ikolo; Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche; and Brigadier-General K.C. Uwa.

The Nigeria Police Force said the promotions underscore its commitment to the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its personnel as it continues efforts to build a more accountable, efficient and service-oriented police institution.
