MALAWI: Spanner to Invest Nigeria Prize Money in Youth Empowerment and Food Business
By Smile Hamilton, Malawi
Malawian competitive eating champion Spanner Malawi says he will invest the prize money he won in Nigeria into a food business while also supporting vulnerable young people across the country.
Spanner returned to Malawi after a two-week stay in Nigeria, where he took part in a series of competitive eating contests. He emerged victorious in every competition he entered, earning more than MK12 million in prize money.
The champion is also expected to receive an additional MK2 million from renowned roofing specialist Nkhuwamanya Kaira in recognition of his outstanding achievement.
Speaking on arrival at Kamuzu International Airport, Spanner said his long-term ambition is to establish several food outlets across Malawi, beginning with his first outlet in Lilongwe.
My vision is to own many food outlets, but I will start with one in Lilongwe. I also want to use part of the money to help vulnerable young people so they can have a better future,” he said.
Spanner added that he will take a one-month break to recover before returning to competitive eating, saying he is looking forward to participating in more international competitions and continuing to represent Malawi on the global stage.
