The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has recruited 687 officers to strengthen the implementation of the MK5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programme in councils across Malawi.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ben Malunga Phiri said the recruitment is part of government’s efforts to ensure councils have adequate technical and administrative personnel to effectively manage the expanded CDF programme.
“We have recruited 687 officers who will be deployed to councils to support the implementation of the MK5 billion Constituency Development Fund programme. These officers will fill various technical and administrative positions that are critical to service delivery,” said Phiri.
The minister further revealed that, with support from the World Bank, the ministry has for the first time recruited qualified engineers for all 36 councils to improve the planning, supervision and quality of infrastructure development projects.
Phiri added that the ministry has also completed filling all key senior positions in local councils, including Directors of Finance, Directors of Planning and Development, Directors of Public Works, and Chief Procurement Officers.
He said the recruitment drive is in line with President Peter Mutharika’s vision of strengthening local governance and accelerating development through a well-capacitated local government system.
The newly recruited officers include accountants, procurement officers, works supervisors and other professionals who are expected to enhance transparency, accountability and efficient implementation of development projects under the MK5 billion CDF programme.
