A gas explosion has sparked a fire outbreak on Adeleye Street, by Doyin, in the Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos, leaving one person seriously injured.
The incident occurred around 12:23 p.m., with emergency responders arriving at the scene approximately 11 minutes later to contain the situation.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
According to the agency, the explosion happened while an attendant was refilling a gas cylinder in one of two shops located at the frontage of a demolished building on a half plot of land.
” The attendant sustained critical injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.”
Fire crews from Sari Iganmu and Ajegunle Fire Stations were deployed to the scene and successfully curtailed the spread of the fire, which also affected the adjoining shop.
Authorities said no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion, while officials say further updates will be provided as more
details emerge.
