MALAWI: Mutharika Dismisses Health Rumours, Says Economy Challenges Being Addressed
By Smile Hamilton Malawi
Former Malawi leader Peter Mutharika has dismissed rumours suggesting that he is unwell, describing them as false and malicious.
Mutharika made the remarks during a special interview aired on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), where he directly responded to speculation surrounding his health.
“Some people wish others harm by spreading claims that they have died. You may recall that when I traveled to America previously, some said I had died. I can assure you that as I speak now, some of those people are in their graves, while I am still alive,” said Mutharika.
He emphasized that such rumours are often driven by ill intent and should not be taken seriously, adding that he remains in good health.
Mutharika also addressed the country’s economic situation, noting that efforts are underway to resolve challenges related to shortages of foreign exchange and fuel.
He said his administration is working on stabilizing the economy to ensure long-term growth and improve the livelihoods of Malawians.
The former president concluded by urging citizens to remain patient as measures are being implemented to restore econo
mic stability.
