Breaking: Nigerian Police Dismiss ASP Nuhu Usman, Others Over Extrajudicial Killing In Delta

The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate dismissal and prosecution of ASP Nuhu Usman and other officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mr Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force disclosed that all officers connected to the Monday incident were immediately withdrawn from Delta State Command and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for expedited disciplinary proceedings.
According to the statement, the Force Disciplinary Committee found that ASP Nuhu Usman acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations governing the use of firearms. His actions were described as unlawful, unprofessional, and a betrayal of the police oath to protect life and uphold the law.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the recommendation for the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman and other culpable officers. The names have been forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification.
Upon completion of the administrative process, the affected officers will be handed over to judicial authorities for criminal prosecution over their roles in the extrajudicial killing.
The IGP reiterated the Force’s zero-tolerance policy on extrajudicial actions and abuse of power, warning that no officer has the right to take life outside the provisions of the law.
IGP Disu extended his deepest condolences to the family of the late Mene Ogidi and assured them that justice would be served fully.
