President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday marked his 74th birthday with a low-key celebration, expressing deep gratitude to Nigerians for their messages of love, prayers, and continued support for his administration.
In a special birthday message released from the State House, President Tinubu said he was filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation. He thanked citizens for their patriotism, solidarity, and backing of his government’s reform agenda, despite the challenges faced.
“I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday,” the President stated.
He particularly appreciated those who took out space in newspapers or paid for airtime on radio and television to wish him well. He also expressed thanks to his wife, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their kind words.
Consistent with his tradition of aligning his birthday with the mood of the nation, President Tinubu said he chose to observe this year’s celebration quietly. He acknowledged the difficulties the country has faced since the commencement of his administration’s economic reforms, but expressed optimism that the sacrifices were beginning to yield positive results.
“I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain, as we can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, despite the temporary setback caused by the ongoing Middle East crisis,” he noted.
The President stressed that the gains achieved so far were not his alone or that of his Renewed Hope team, but the collective effort of all Nigerians. He reaffirmed his commitment to building a brighter future, stating that with continued public support, the administration would overcome current challenges as it approaches its third anniversary.
“Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa,” President Tinubu urged.
He concluded by thanking all Nigerians once again and wishing himself a happy 74th birthday.
The low-key celebration comes at a time when the country continues to grapple with economic hardships and global factors affecting fuel prices and inflation. Many Nigerians, however, used the occasion to send messages of goodw
ill to the President.
