The Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Justine Saidi, has said that the government is working to ensure that all people affected by floods receive the necessary assistance.
Saidi made the remarks today in Machinga, where he visited families whose homes and property were damaged following heavy rains that fell earlier this week.
One of the victims, Osman Ngalinje from Kaudzu Village under Senior Chief Sitola, said the disaster has left them in a desperate situation as all their clothes and food were washed away by the floods.
Currently, a total of 4,321 people in Machinga District have been affected by the floods.
Authorities say the number is expected to rise as the assessment exercise to identify all affected households is stil
l ongoing.
