NIGERIA: IGP Disu Presents ₦2.4 Billion In Cheques To Families Of Fallen Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, today handed over cheques totaling ₦2,435,421,584.11 to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers at a solemn ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The disbursements, drawn from the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes, cover policy years 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2024/2025, and 2025/2026, along with recovered outstanding insurance claims from previous periods.
Force Insurance Officer ACP Lydia Ameh, in her remarks, described the event as a clear demonstration of IGP Disu’s unwavering priority on personnel welfare.
She highlighted that the payments represent recoveries from long-delayed insurance obligations and confirmed that decisive measures have been implemented to enforce compliance by insurance providers, prevent future delays, and ensure efficient, transparent, and accountable claims processing.
IGP Disu, addressing the gathering, called the ceremony a poignant tribute to the ultimate sacrifices made by officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He stressed that supporting the families of fallen heroes is not merely financial assistance but a moral and institutional obligation to honour their courage, dedication, and service to the nation.
“The welfare of our personnel and their families remains a central pillar of my administration,” the IGP declared.
He pledged intensified efforts to strengthen welfare mechanisms, boost administrative efficiency, eliminate bottlenecks in benefit processing, and adopt modern technology to enhance transparency, speed up claims handling, and guarantee accountability.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its deep commitment to the well-being of serving officers and the families of those who made the supreme sacrifice, underscoring that their contributions continue to underpin national peace, security, and stability.
