NIGERIA: IGP Disu Decorates Eight New Deputy Inspectors-General Of Police

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police at a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The decoration ceremony formally ushered the officers into the top leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, marking a significant step in the ongoing restructuring of the Force management team.
Speaking during the event, the IGP said the elevation of the officers was not merely ceremonial but a recognition of years of commitment, professionalism and leadership within the police.
He said: “This ceremony is more than a symbolic adornment. Promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police recognises decades of dedicated service, professional excellence, and leadership capacity.”
Disu charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic leadership and strengthen discipline across the Force while ensuring policing strategies remain effective in addressing emerging security challenges.
He said: “You must provide strategic direction, strengthen internal discipline, drive reforms, and ensure our policing strategies remain responsive to evolving security challenges.”
The police chief also urged the officers to apply their experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination and inter-agency collaboration in the discharge of their new responsibilities.
He said: “Leverage your experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and accountability while inspiring confidence within the Force and trust among the public.”
Disu also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the police institution, while commending the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
The newly decorated Deputy Inspectors-General of Police are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
With their promotion, the officers now form part of the Force Management Team alongside the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo.
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including Chairman of the House Committee on Airforce, Kabir Alhassan Rurum, Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Temitope Ilori, and former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kefas.
