The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its counter-terrorism efforts by training 56 operatives of its Counter Terrorism Unit in Close Quarter Battle tactics and intelligence analysis.
The two-week specialised programme, conducted in partnership with the British High Commission in Nigeria, aimed to equip officers with advanced skills to effectively combat terrorism, banditry, and other emerging security threats.
The training concluded with a closing ceremony in Abuja where officials commended the participants for their professionalism and dedication.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, represented by AIG Akoh Gabriel, described the initiative as a clear demonstration of the Force’s commitment to building operational capacity in response to evolving security challenges across the country.
As part of the broader strategy to strengthen counter-terrorism operations, the Nigeria Police Force has approved the establishment of new Counter Terrorism Unit bases in Madagali (Adamawa State), Ikot Odo (Akwa Ibom State), and Ode-Remo (Ogun State). Additional deployments have also been authorised to strategic locations nationwide.
The Force explained that these new bases and deployments will enhance rapid response capabilities, improve operational coverage, and provide better coordination in addressing terrorism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in vulnerable regions.
