NIGERIA: NDLEA Arrests Former Lagos Council Chief In Skunk Bust, Recovers Tapentadol In Baby Diapers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a former two-term Councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over his alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.
The 45-year-old ex-council chief, who now serves as a legislative aide, was nabbed on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, hidden in one of his rooms.
The suspect admitted ownership of the exhibit and the property during questioning.
In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, NDLEA officers on Tuesday, March 3, intercepted 32-year-old businessman Emeka Hyginus Okwor in a vehicle travelling from Obollo-Afor, Enugu State, to Zuba, FCT.
A search of his luggage revealed 1000 pills of tapentadol 250mg concealed inside baby diapers.
The suspect confessed ownership and disclosed he was transporting the consignment to Guduwa village in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, where he operates a provision store.
On the same day, March 3, operatives on patrol along the Kabba-Obajana highway in Kogi State intercepted 1.550 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis strain, hidden inside a standing fan carton belonging to 36-year-old Cameroonian Mey Ali Muhamat from Maroua, Cameroon.
He was travelling in a commercial bus from Lagos to Cameroon via Lokoja, Kano, and Maiduguri.
In Niger State, operatives on patrol along the Mokwa-Jebba road on Wednesday, March 4, intercepted a commercial bus from Ibadan, Oyo State, containing 500 pieces of improvised explosive device (IED) components concealed in a white sack destined for Pelegi.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the recipient, Osama Abdullahi, 21, at Pelegi, Mashegu Local Government Area.
Other major seizures include 122000 tramadol pills and 700 grams of methamphetamine recovered from the false bottom of a truck conveying 2000 cartons of local drinks in Yola, Adamawa State, on March 4.
In Kano, Muhammed Ali, 20, was arrested at Gadar Tamburawa on March 3 with 11283 tramadol pills. In Ogun State, NDLEA raided Ogere and arrested Nazifi Mudansir and Kabiru Musa in possession of 46 kilograms of skunk.
In Delta State, Joy Chukwuma, 25, and Eugene Felix, 22, were nabbed on March 7 at Ogwashi-Uku with 18.63 kilograms of skunk, 10.8 litres of codeine-based syrup, 4268 tramadol pills and swinol.
In Edo State, Eke London, 48, and Austin Isusi, 49, were arrested at Egbisi forest, Uhumwonde Local Government Area, where 1910.25 kilograms of skunk was destroyed on two farms, while Alaba Adeboye, 47, was apprehended at Ikhin town, Owan East Local Government Area, with 176.50 kilograms of skunk.
The NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and men of the Lagos, FCT, Kano, Niger, Kogi, Edo, Ogun, Delta and Adamawa Commands for their dexterity and urged continued balanced efforts in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA). The agency also sustained WADA sensitisation lectures in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities across Oyo, Niger, Zamfara, Lagos, Sokoto, Ebonyi and Anambra States
, among others, in the past week.
