NIGERIA: US Issues Security Alert To Citizens In Nigeria Amid Escalating US-Iran Hostilities
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The United States government has issued a security alert to its citizens in Nigeria and worldwide following the escalation of military hostilities between the US and Iran.
The advisory, released on Monday by the US Department of State, urges Americans abroad to remain vigilant and follow guidance from the nearest US embassy or consulate in light of ongoing combat operations involving Iran.
The alert highlights potential travel disruptions, including periodic airspace closures linked to the crisis.
It advises increased caution globally and recommends enrolment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for timely security updates.
Citizens are also encouraged to follow the US Department of State Security Updates for US Citizens WhatsApp channel for further information.
The warning comes after Iranian state and local media confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with several high-ranking officials, in airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel.
Iran has retaliated with multiple missile launches targeting US military bases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, vowing to avenge the losses.
US President Donald Trump addressed the situation in a live broadcast on Saturday during the attacks, stating his determination to eliminate members of the Iranian regime.
He called on Iranian citizens to take control of their government once military operations conclude.
The developments have raised fears of a broader regional conflict, prompting heightened security measures and travel ad
visories from the US.
