NIGERIA: NIMC Launches Nationwide Ward-Level NIN Enrolment Starting February 16
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the commencement of a nationwide ward-level enrolment exercise for the National Identification Number (NIN), aimed at bringing registration services directly to grassroots communities across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, NIMC Head of Corporate Communications Kayode Adegoke said the initiative will begin on Monday, February 16, in fulfilment of a presidential directive to decentralise NIN registration and make it more accessible to all Nigerians and legal residents, including children.
The exercise is completely free of charge and seeks to register every eligible person into the National Identity Database.
By moving enrolment to the ward level, NIMC intends to eliminate long-distance travel, reduce waiting times at urban centres, and ease the burden on citizens, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Ward-specific enrolment schedules are now available on the official NIMC website (www.nimc.gov.ng), where members of the public can check dates, locations, and requirements for their respective wards.
For further enquiries or clarification, citizens are advised to call the commission’s toll-free line or visit any
NIMC office.
