MALAWI: Luxembourg Expresses Interest in Strengthening Ties, Highlights Trust as Key Issue

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has expressed strong interest in working with the Malawi government to support President Peter Mutharika’s vision, while emphasizing that building trust will be a top priority.
Speaking after a meeting with President Mutharika on Monday at Kamuzu Palace, Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said his country believes in supporting thriving democracies with robust governance systems, noting that such countries make effective use of taxpayers’ money.
“Malawi is the first country in Africa where we feel welcomed. We commit to work with the government and continue reviewing our cooperation to see where we are doing well or not, so we can improve for the betterment of our people,” Bettel said.
President Mutharika, for his part, outlined his vision for Malawi’s economic transformation, emphasizing a shift from a predominantly importing and consuming economy to a producing and exporting nation.
“I therefore invite you and Luxembourg investors to set up companies in Malawi. The country has a conducive environment for investment,” Mutha
