The Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Mount Kenya West Diocese, Bishop Gerald Muriithi, has condemned the chaos that erupted during Sunday service in Nyeri, where goons reportedly accompanied by police officers disrupted worship, forcing congregants to flee.
Speaking during a press briefing at ACK St. Peters Witima Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, Bishop Muriithi said the incident, which unfolded as faithful gathered for prayers, violated the sanctity of the church and raised serious concerns over the misuse of security agencies.
“The church is a place of peace, prayer and refuge. What happened on Sunday was unacceptable. Violence and intimidation have no place in the house of God,” Bishop Muriithi said.
He called for an independent investigation into the incident, accountability for all those involved, and urged authorities to ensure churches remain safe spaces free from political or security inter
ference.
