Nigerian Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has called on Edo State residents to remain resolute in protecting their votes as the gubernatorial election draws near.
Speaking at the grand finale of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in Ekemwan, Benin City, on Saturday, Atiku urged supporters to stay vigilant, recalling the party’s previous victory in the state.
Addressing a crowd, Atiku said, “If you remember, four years ago, they threatened us, didn’t they? They said they won’t allow us to win in Edo State. But what did we show them? We showed them that Edo State no be Lagos, didn’t we do it?”
The former vice president reaffirmed the PDP’s readiness to secure another win, stressing that no external force would be allowed to tamper with the results.
“This time again, we are going to show them that Edo no be Lagos. They can’t steal votes here. Therefore, protect, defend, and escort your votes,” Atiku stated.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring the votes are counted and the results announced accurately, stating, “Make sure your votes are entered, make sure your results are announced. If you do that, no Jupiter will come and change your votes.”
Atiku expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances, stating, “You are winning next week, do you agree? Edo no be Lagos!” His message energized the crowd, who responded with chants and applause, showing their readiness to defend their votes in the upcoming election.
The Edo state gubernatorial election will be held next week, Saturday, 21st of September 2024.
