NIGERIA: Burna Boy, VeryDarkMan Visit Kirikiri Prison To Explore Fine Payment Process For Inmate Release

Afrobeat superstar Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna .wBoy, alongside controversial social commentator Vincent Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan, paid a visit to the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos to gain firsthand insight into procedures for securing the release of eligible inmates through fine payments.
The duo’s visit focused on understanding the legal and administrative steps involved in discharging prisoners who qualify for release upon settlement of court-imposed fines. They were received by the Officer-in-Charge, Sanni Richard, who detailed the guidelines governing eligibility, payment processes, and safeguards to ensure transparency and strict adherence to court orders.
In a statement released by Public Relations Officer Osho Onimisi Joseph of the Lagos State Command, the Nigerian Correctional Service emphasised that no inmate is released without proper authorisation and full compliance with judicial rulings and correctional regulations.
The Service highlighted its commitment to maintaining safe, secure, and humane conditions for inmates, in line with the Nigerian Correctional Service Act and international standards.
The visit has been commended as a lawful effort supporting access to justice, custodial decongestion, and rehabilitation.
The Correctional Service reaffirmed its dedication to inmate reform and successful societal reintegration while welcoming initiatives that align withthese objectives.
