The 12th edition of the Mombasa Open Tong-il Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship has kicked off in Mombasa, returning to the international calendar after a two-year break.
Kenya Tong-il Moo-Do Federation President Master Clarence Mwakio thanked the government for its support, saying, “As a Federation, we would like to thank the government and the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya, who made this event possible after a long wait.” He noted that while close to 50 countries had confirmed participation, travel and logistical challenges may reduce the number of international competitors.

Master Mwakio added that the federation is investing in grassroots development, with 37 academies already established across the country to nurture young talent. World Tong-il Moo-Do Federation President Grandmaster Tokamitso Hoshiko praised Kenya’s role as host, saying the preparations are geared towards “ultimately taking the sport to the OlympicGames.”
