NIGERIA: Accord Party Clears Adeleke As Sole Aspirant For Osun Governorship Primary
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Accord Party has cleared Governor Ademola Adeleke as the sole aspirant for its Osun State governorship primary scheduled to hold on Wednesday.
The development comes less than 24 hours after the governor formally defected to the Accord Party alongside his deputy, Kola Adewusi, and several senior aides.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Accord Party Screening Committee on Wednesday, Elder Ibe Thankgod, the party confirmed that Adeleke had successfully undergone the screening exercise and fulfilled all requirements for nomination.
According to the committee, all necessary documentation with relevant bodies has also been completed, paving the way for the governor to contest unopposed for the party’s ticket.
The committee presented Adeleke with a certificate of clearance and described him as a credible and qualified governorship aspirant.
Adeleke, while responding after receiving the clearance, expressed appreciation to the screening committee and the national leadership of the party.
He said: “I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace.”
