MALAWI: Speaker Suleman Outlines Vision For A Responsive Parliament
By Smile Hamilton Malawi
Speaker of Parliament, Right Honourable Sameer Suleman, MP, on Monday morning held his first engagement with the management team of the Parliament Secretariat, where he shared his vision for the institution.

“My vision is to make Parliament relevant, responsive and responsible. I know this can only be achieved if we are to read from the same book, same chapter, same page and same paragraph,” he said.
The Speaker emphasized that to realise this vision, the institutional culture must fully reflect the mission and goals of Parliament.
“I don’t want to be judged by how many sessions, meetings or sittings of Parliament I presided over, but by the difference these meetings will make to the development of our nation. My desire is to be measured by the change I have brought. I want change, and change is what we must attain,” he said.

He further noted that Parliament has a significant role to play in achieving Malawi’s Vision 2063.
Speaking on behalf of the Secretariat management team, Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba said the engagement helped them better understand the Speaker’s vision and clarify expectations going forward.
During the meeting, the Speaker was also taken through the structure and functions of the Secretariat.
