KENYA: U.S. Vice President JD Vance Cancels Kenya Visit Amid Government Shutdown
By: Moses Punyuah, Nairobi Kenya.
The planned visit by United States Vice President JD Vance to Kenya has been officially cancelled following the ongoing U.S. government shutdown.
In a statement, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi confirmed the development, noting that the decision came after President Donald Trump directed that no U.S. officials would attend the upcoming G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Mudavadi explained that since Vance’s trip to Kenya was tied to his planned presence in South Africa, it will no longer proceed.
“The Government of Kenya, through the Office of H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H., Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, has been notified by the Government of the United States of America of the cancellation of the planned visit to Kenya by the Vice President, His Excellency JD Vance, which was scheduled for later this month,” Mudavadi said.
