Mzimba Heritage Association (Mziha) has announced plans to start offering Ngoni language lessons in some primary schools, through Ngoni clubs in the district to revive the language.
Mziha General Secretary, Kingsley Jere, says those fluent in Ngoni will be identified as teachers.
The two-year project, supported by COSOMA with a K5 million grant, will start in areas under three traditional authorities: M’mbelwa, Mzukuzuku, and Mabilabo.
Group Village Headman, Yakobe Jere, has described the gesture as timely, as the Ngoni language is dying.
Currently, most Ngoni speakers in Mzimba come from the area of Senior Chief Mpherembe.
