Malawi’s Second Vice President, Enock Kanzingeni Chihana, on Sunday, arrived at Mzuzu Upper Stadium, to lead the remembrance day commemorations in honour of the fallen heroes who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars.

The solemn event brought together representatives of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Malawi Police Service, Mzuzu City Council, religious leaders, and members of the public, who gathered to pay tribute to the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom.

Speaking during the ceremony, Chihana said the nation must never forget the price paid by its sons and daughters who participated in the wars under the British colonial army.
“These heroes fought with courage and selflessness so that the generations to come could live in a more peaceful world,” said Chihana. “It is our collective responsibility to preserve their legacy by promoting peace, unity, and national service.”

Wreaths were laid at the war memorial monument as the crowd observed a moment of silence, followed by the playing of the Last Post and the national anthem.
The commemoration, observed every year on the second Sunday of November, is part of a global tradition to remember those who served and died in the line of duty during the two world wars and other conflicts.
