By Deborah Akur Chol, South Sudan
H.E. Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, the Governor of Central Equatoria State, officially launched the 3rd Annual Conference of the South Sudan Women in Aviation Association on Wednesday, which centred around the theme “Empowering Women, Transforming Aviation.”
In his keynote address, Governor Mujung highlighted that gender inclusion in the aviation industry is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic asset that drives innovation and fosters sustainable development. He pointed out that nations that actively support women’s involvement in aviation have seen significant gains in efficiency and creativity, urging South Sudan to follow suit.
“The involvement of women in aviation has been hindered by social and institutional obstacles,” he stated. “It is essential for us government, private sector, and civil society to collaborate in breaking down these barriers and creating opportunities for our daughters, sisters, and mothers.”
The Governor reiterated the government’s dedication to advancing gender equality in all sectors, calling on aviation authorities to establish mentorship programs, scholarships, and training initiatives tailored for women. He also encouraged development partners and investors to back efforts aimed at empowering women in the aviation field.
