MALAWI: President Lazarus Chakwera Concedes Defeat, Congratulates Mutharika

President Lazarus Chakwera has accepted defeat in the September 16, 2025 presidential election and congratulated Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on his victory. The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) earlier declared Mutharika as the duly elected President after defeating 16 other candidates
In his address at Kamuzu Palace, Chakwera said he respected the will of the people and pledged to ensure a peaceful transition of power. “The people of Malawi have spoken through the ballot, and as a democrat, I accept their decision. I warmly congratulate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on being elected as our new President,” he said.
Chakwera also urged his supporters to remain calm and united after the election. He emphasized that despite political differences, Malawians must put the nation first and work together for peace, stability, and development.
